The Phytofiliere is the only one of its kind in the world, and was created from a vantage point to supervise all of the stages of product development, from the search for active plant ingredients to the preparation of the finished product. This process makes it possible for KLORANE Laboratories to have permanent access to rawplant materials, to guarantee constant supply and quality, and to perform dermo-cosmetic products. By virtue of the Phytofiliere, KLORANE Laboratories have full control of their plant division, and can therefore fully guarantee the safety and efficacy of theri products. This stage relies on modern prospecting methods. It is worth nothing three methods in particular. Ethnopharmacology (global exploration to discover and observe plants and the traditional medicines of indigeneous populations), Epidemiology (to discover the preventative or curative roles of certain substances connected with therapeutic and/or eating habits) and Chemotaxonomy (the study and classification of plants according to their chemical composition). Once the research stage is complete, the chosen plant enters a process of selection. The purpose of the first phase is to select the most interesting variety, according to key criteris: contains large quantities of the active substance, the yield of extract is high, agronomic behavior. Cultivation experiments are also conducted to study the conditions that enable optimal synthesis of the active substances by the plant. Very strict specifications are then drawn up (including the variety, argonomic conditions, the plant parts to use, the harvesting stage, drying and homogenization conditions and the packaging method), in accordance with the standards of the pharmaceutical industry. The Pierre Fabre Group directly produces many plants, such as oats or nasturtiums, others come from contractual partnership with specialized farmers who must respect the exact specifications set out by Klorane Laboratories that guarantee the quality of the production. Many tests are done in the field, to ensure that the plants delivered comply with pharmaceutical standards. Certain elements of the rpoduction are carried out in France, but also spans to countries all over the world, for example Egypt and China, depending on the ecological needs of each plant. The extracts are manufactured at the Plantes & Industries site at Gaillac (Tarn). This factory has been approved by the FDA (Food and Dtug Administration). The plants received are tested, standardized and then the active substances are extracted. The extract obtained is then concentrated, standardized so that the concentration of the active substance is constant from one batch to another and stabilized so that its efficacy remains constant over time. This last step is carried out at a manufacturing site specialized in dermocosmetics at Soual (Tarn). The quality assurance system used to monitor the process gurantees optimal efficacy and safety. The formulation of the product is optimized for greatest efficacy.
